RESUMO

Photocatalytic nitrogen fixation from N2 provides an alternative strategy for ammonia (NH3) production, but it was limited by the consumption of a sacrificial electron donor for the currently reported half-reaction system. Here, we use naturally abundant and renewable cellulose as the sacrificial reagent for photocatalytic nitrogen fixation over oxygen-vacancy-modified MoO3 nanosheets as the photocatalyst. In this smartly designed photocatalytic system, the photooxidation of cellulose not only generates value-added chemicals but also provides electrons for the N2 reduction reaction and results in the production of NH3 with a maximum rate of 68 µmol·h-1·g-1. Also, the oxygen vacancies provide efficient active sites for both cellulose oxygenolysis and nitrogen fixation reactions. This work represents useful inspiration for realizing nitrogen fixation coupled with the generation of value-added chemicals from N2 and cellulose through a photocatalysis strategy.

RESUMO

Ultrasound enhanced evaporating crystallization has been proposed to solve the problems of low crystallization yield and uneven particle size in the evaporating crystallization process of ammonium sulfate solution at atmospheric pressure. The effects of key operating parameters, including the ultrasound power, stirring speed, pH value, and ultrasound time, on the yield of ammonium sulfate product and the duration of solid-liquid transformation time are studied. The results show that the ultrasound crystallization can increase the ammonium sulfate yield by 52.9 %, reduce the solid-liquid transformation time of ammonium sulfate by 10 %, and obtain ammonium sulfate products with higher crystallinity and more uniform particle size. Ultrasound promotes the crystallization of ammonium sulfate by enhancing the transfer of heat in the solution and reducing the supersolubility of the ammonium sulfate solution from 937.5 g/L to 833.33 g/L. This study provides experimental justification for the use of ultrasound in atmospheric evaporative crystallization.

RESUMO

Small bowel adenocarcinoma (SBA) is a rare tumor entity with a relatively poor prognosis. Diagnosis and management of SBA are still challenging despite recent advancement of diagnostic methods and publication of guidelines. This study aimed to analyze and visualize the trending of SBA research in the past 22 years in the 21st century through bibliometric analysis. Our study collected 1270 publication records of SBA from 2000 Jan 1st to 2022 December 31 from Web of Science and used VOSviewer and CiteSpace to analyze countries, institutions, journals, authors, references and keywords to present the latest trends in SBA research. The USA was the most productive country in terms of the total number of publications (n = 418). The Mayo Clinic (n = 22) and University of Texas MD Cancer Center (n = 22) were the institutions with top publications. The "World Journal Of Gastroenterology" (n = 30) had the largest publications. Overman Michael J (n = 17) was the most active and prolific author. The "small bowel adenocarcinoma" was the most frequent keyword. Our bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the trends and gaps in the research of SBA. Despite the challenges faced, researchers from USA, Japan and China have made significant contributions to the field of SBA research, and further research is necessary to develop evidence-based guidelines, and advance the understanding and management of SBA.

RESUMO

A new loach species, Oreonectesandongensissp. nov. is described from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. The new species can be differentiated from other members of the genus by combinations of characters: a developed posterior chamber of the swim bladder, 13-14 branched caudal-fin rays, 8-16 lateral-line pores, body width 12-15% of standard length (SL), interorbital width 42-47% of head length (HL), and caudal peduncle length 11-16% of SL. Bayesian inference phylogenetic analysis based on mitochondrial Cyt b provided strong support for validity of O.andongensissp. nov. (uncorrected p-distance 6.0-7.5%).

RESUMO

Background: The prevalence of suboptimal health status has been increasing worldwide, posing a significant challenge to public health. Meanwhile, family health has been recognised as an important factor influencing individual health outcomes. However, the mechanisms through which family health affects suboptimal health status remain unclear. We aimed to investigate the parallel mediation role of sleep quality and health behaviour in the relationship between family health and suboptimal health status. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey with a sample of adults >18 years old from four provinces in China. The survey questionnaires queried their demographic characteristics, family health, suboptimal health status, sleep quality, and health behaviour. We assessed family health by the Family Health Scale-Short Form and suboptimal health status using the Suboptimal Health Status Questionnaire. We employed structural equation modelling to analyse the data and test the proposed mediation model. Results: we collected 4918 valid questionnaires. The mean age of the participants was 30.1 years (standard deviation = 12.5). The correlation analysis demonstrated a significant negative association between family health and suboptimal health status (r = -0.44; P < 0.001). The results of the parallel mediation analysis showed that family health had a significant indirect effect on suboptimal health status through both sleep quality (ß = -0.350; P < 0.001) and health behaviour (ß = -0.137; P < 0.001). The total indirect effect of family health on suboptimal health status through both sleep quality and health behaviour was also significant (ß = -0.569, P < 0.001). Conclusions: This study highlights the significance of family health as a predictor of suboptimal health status and suggests that sleep quality and health behaviour are parallel mediators in this relationship. By understanding the role of family health, sleep quality, and health behaviour, interventions can be targeted to improve overall health outcomes.

RESUMO

2D conjugated polymers (2DCPs) possess extended in-plane π-conjugated lattice and out-of-plane π-π stacking, which results in enhanced electronic performance and potentially unique band structures. These properties, along with predesignability, well-defined channels, easy postmodification, and order structure attract extensive attention from material science to organic electronics. In this review, the recent advance in the interfacial synthesis and conductivity tuning strategies of 2DCP thin films, as well as their application in organic electronics is summarized. Furthermore, it is shown that, by combining topology structure design and targeted conductivity adjustment, researchers have fabricated 2DCP thin films with predesigned active groups, highly ordered structures, and enhanced conductivity. These films exhibit great potential for various thin-film organic electronics, such as organic transistors, memristors, electrochromism, chemiresistors, and photodetectors. Finally, the future research directions and perspectives of 2DCPs are discussed in terms of the interfacial synthetic design and structure engineering for the fabrication of fully conjugated 2DCP thin films, as well as the functional manipulation of conductivity to advance their applications in future organic electronics.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) has high morbidity and mortality. Despite substantial advances in treatment, the prognosis of patients with LUAD remains unfavorable. The ceRNA axis has been reported to play an important role in the pathogenesis of LUAD. In addition, cuproptosis is considered an important factor in tumorigenesis. The expression of CBX2 has been associated with the development of multiple tumors, including LUAD. However, the precise molecular mechanisms through which the cuproptosis-related ceRNA network regulates CBX2 remain unclear. METHODS: The DEGs between tumor and normal samples of LUAD were identified in TCGA database. The "ConsensusClusterPlus" R package was used to perform consensus clustering based on the mRNA expression matrix and cuproptosis-related gene expression profile. Then, LASSO-COX regression analysis was performed to identify potential prognostic biomarkers associated with cuproptosis, and the ceRNA network was constructed. Finally, the mechanisms of ceRNA in LUAD was studied by cell experiments. RESULTS: In this study, the AC144450.1/miR-424-5p axis was found to promote the progression of LUAD by acting on CBX2. The expression of AC144450.1 and miR-424-5p can be altered to regulate CBX2 and is correlated with cell proliferation and cell cycle of LUAD. Mechanistically, AC144450.1 affects the expression of CBX2 by acting as the ceRNA of miR-424-5p. In addition, a cuproptosis-related model were constructed in this study to predict the prognosis of LUAD. CONCLUSIONS: This study is the first to demonstrate that the AC144450.1/miR-424-5p/CBX2 axis is involved in LUAD progression and may serve as a novel target for its diagnosis and treatment.

RESUMO

Adverse skin reactions caused by the COVID-19 vaccine have attracted considerable attention. As we all know, the development mechanism of some skin diseases is related to the gut and skin microbiome. A 78-year-old male patient who received the COVID-19 vaccine developed generalized eczema with multiple dense black patches over the body, a widespread rash, erosion, and scabs on his limbs, as well as facial edema. The patient experienced recurrent flare-ups after conventional treatment, but then recovered well without recurrence after undergoing three fecal microbial transplantation (FMT) treatments. This rare case is reported for the first time in this study. This report demonstrates the possible potential of FMT in targeting refractory skin diseases, such as eczema, as well as diseases associated with gut microbiota disturbance after vaccination.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to introduce a novel radially pedicled in-situ split-thickness skin graft (STSG). The morbidity, esthetic, and functional outcomes of the radially pedicled in-situ STSG were in comparison with those of the distal STSG. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective analysis. SETTING: A single-institution review. METHODS: Seventy patients with oral cancer who underwent radical surgical resection and simultaneous radial forearm free flap (RFFF) reconstruction from July 2021 to March 2022 were included. De-epithelialized RFFFs and traditional RFFFs were used to repair oral defects of 35 patients in Group A and Group B, respectively, while radially pedicled in-situ STSGs and distal STSGs taken from abdomens were used to repair donor site defects in the above groups, respectively. Patient demographics, wound healing complications, and esthetic and functional outcomes of the forearms were compared between the 2 groups. RESULTS: No significant difference between Group A and Group B was observed in terms of donor site and recipient site complications. The esthetic outcome was superior in Group A compared to Group B (P = .011). The extension range, sensation, and pinch strength of operated forearms were significantly reduced in both groups after surgery (P < .05), however, intergroup differences were not observed. CONCLUSION: Taken together, our results suggest that radially pedicled in-situ STSG is an applicable technique for direct closure and better esthetic outcomes in the forearm donor site.

RESUMO

Organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) as a vital component among transistors have shown great potential in smart sensing, flexible displays, and bionics due to their flexibility, biocompatibility and customizable chemical structures. Even though linear conjugated polymer semiconductors are common for constructing channel materials of OTFTs, advanced materials with high charge carrier mobility, tunable band structure, robust stability, and clear structure-property relationship are indispensable for propelling the evolution of OTFTs. Two-dimensional conjugated polymers (2DCPs), featured with conjugated lattice, tailorable skeletons, and functional porous structures, match aforementioned criteria closely. In this review, we firstly introduce the synthesis of 2DCP thin films, focusing on their characteristics compatible with the channels of OTFTs. Subsequently, the physics and operating mechanisms of OTFTs and the applications of 2DCPs in OTFTs are summarized in detail. Finally, the outlook and perspective in the field of OTFTs using 2DCPs are provided as well.

RESUMO

Solar-driven photothermal catalytic H2 production from lignocellulosic biomass was achieved by using 1T-2H MoS2 with tunable Lewis acidic sites as catalysts in an alkaline aqueous solution, in which the number of Lewis acidic sites derived from the exposed Mo edges of MoS2 was successfully regulated by both the formation of an edge-terminated 1T-2H phase structure and tunable layer number. Owing to the abundant Lewis acidic sites for the oxygenolysis of lignocellulosic biomass, the 1T-2H MoS2 catalyst shows high photothermal catalytic lignocellulosic biomass-to-H2 transformation performance in polar wood chips, bamboo, rice straw corncobs, and rice hull aqueous solutions, and the highest H2 generation rate and solar-to-H2 (STH) efficiency respectively achieves 3661 µmol·h-1·g-1 and 0.18% in the polar wood chip system under 300 W Xe lamp illumination. This study provides a sustainable and cost-effective method for the direct transformation of renewable lignocellulosic biomass to H2 fuel driven by solar energy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The management of older aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (aSAH) cases is a clinical challenge. This study aimed to analyse the survival and functional outcomes in older aSAH patients (age ≥ 70 years) to provide evidence for making treatment decisions for such patients. METHODS: We performed a 2-year follow-up analysis of the Chinese Multi-Centre Cerebral Aneurysm Database for older patients suffering from aSAH from 2017 to 2020. A survival analysis was used to investigate the mean survival and hazard ratios for death. Binary logarithmic regression was performed to investigate the odds ratio for independent survival and dependent survival. RESULTS: A total of 1,136 consecutive older patients with aSAH were assessed in this study, and 944 patients (83.1%) were followed up. The overall mean survival was 37.79 ± 1.04 months. A total of 380 (40.25%) patients died within 2 years after aSAH. In survival analysis, the predictors of mortality were older age, intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) history, Hunt-Hess (H-H) grade, World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) grade and operative treatment decreased the risk of mortality compared to conservative treatment. In binary logarithmic regression, the predictors of dependent survival were hypertension, diabetes, WFNS grade. CONCLUSIONS: The risk for 2-year mortality after aSAH increases markedly with older age, ICH history, H-H grade and WFNS grade. Risk factors for 2-year dependent survival were associated with hypertension, diabetes and WFNS grade in older patients with aSAH. Operative treatment markedly decreased mortality but did not significantly decrease the morbidity of dependent survival compared to conservative treatment.

RESUMO

The recycling of spent batteries is an important concern in resource conservation and environmental protection, while it is facing challenges such as insufficient recycling channels, high costs, and technical difficulties. To address these issues, a review of the recycling of spent batteries, emphasizing the importance and potential value of recycling is conducted. Besides, the recycling policies and strategies implemented in representative countries are summarized, providing legal and policy support for the recycling industry. Moreover, a comprehensive classification and comparison of recycling technologies identify the characteristics and current status of different approaches. The integrated recycling technology provides a better recycling performance with zero-pollution recycling of spent battery. Biorecycling technology is expected to gain a broad development prospect in the future owing to the superiority of energy-saving and environmental protection, high recycling efficiency, via microbial degradation, enzymatic degradation, etc. Consequently, as for the existing recycling challenges of waste batteries, developing new recycling technology and perfecting its recycling system is an indispensable guarantee for the sustainable development of waste battery. Meanwhile, theoretical support is offered for the recycling of spent batteries.

RESUMO

The conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to chemical fuel can achieve the sustainable use of lignocellulosic biomass, but it was limited by the lack of an effective conversion strategy. Here, we reported a unique approach of photothermal catalysis by using MoS2-reduced graphene oxide (MoS2/RGO) as the catalyst to convert lignocellulosic biomass into H2 fuel in alkaline solution. The RGO acting as a support for the growth of MoS2 results in the high exposed Mo edges, which act as efficient Lewis acidic sites for the oxygenolysis of lignocellulosic biomass dissolved in alkaline solution. The broad light absorption capacity and abundant Lewis acidic sites make MoS2/RGO to be efficient catalysts for photothermal catalytic H2 production from lignocellulosic biomass, and the H2 generation rate with respect to catalyst under 300 W Xe lamp irradiation in cellulose, rice straw, wheat straw, polar wood chip, bamboo, rice hull, and corncob aqueous solution achieve 223, 168, 230, 564, 390, 234, and 55 µmol·h-1·g-1, respectively. It is believed that this photothermal catalysis is a simple and "green" approach for the lignocellulosic biomass-to-H2 conversion, which would have great potential as a promising approach for solar energy-driven H2 production from lignocellulosic biomass.

RESUMO

The antidiabetic pharmaceutical metformin (MET) is largely unmetabolized by the human body. Its residues are readily detectable in various aquatic environments and may have adverse impacts on the growth and survival of aquatic species. To date, its toxicological effects have scarcely been explored in non-fish species. Here, we exposed the tadpoles of black-spotted pond frog (Pelophylax nigromaculatus) to different concentrations (0, 1, 10 and 100 µg/L) of MET for 30 days and measured the body size, intestinal microbiota and metabolites to evaluate potential effects of MET exposure in amphibian larvae. MET exposure did not affect the growth and intestinal microbial diversity of tadpoles. However, intestinal microbial composition changed significantly, with some pathogenic bacteria (e.g., bacterial genera Salmonella, Comamonas, Stenotrophomonas, Trichococcus) increasing and some beneficial bacteria (e.g., Blautia, Prevotella) decreasing in MET-exposed tadpoles. The levels of some intestinal metabolites associated with growth and immune performance also changed significantly following MET exposure. Overall, our results indicated that exposure to MET, even at environmentally relevant concentrations, would cause intestinal microbiota dysbiosis and metabolite alteration, thereby influencing the health status of non-target aquatic organisms, such as amphibians.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To compare the application value of the likelihood ratio (LR) method and identity by state (IBS) method in the identification involving half sibling relationships, and to provide a reference for the setting of relevant standards for identification of half sibling relationship. METHODS: (1) Based on the same genetic marker combinations, the reliability of computer simulation method was verified by comparing the distributions of cumulated identity by state score (CIBS) and combined full sibling index in actual cases with the distributions in simulated cases. (2) In different numbers of three genetic marker combinations, the simulation of full sibling, half sibling and unrelated individual pairs, each 1 million pairs, was obtained; the CIBS, as well as the corresponding types of cumulative LR parameters, were calculated. (3) The application value of LR method was compared with that of IBS method, by comparing the best system efficiency provided by LR method and IBS method when genetic markers in different amounts and of different types and accuracy were applied to distinguish the above three relational individual pairs. (4) According to the existing simulation data, the minimum number of genetic markers required to distinguish half siblings from the other two relationships using different types of genetic markers was estimated by curve fitting. RESULTS: (1) After the rank sum test, under the premise that the real relationship and the genetic marker combination tested were the same, there was no significant difference between the simulation method and the results obtained in the actual case. (2) In most cases, under the same conditions, the system effectiveness obtained by LR method was greater than that by IBS method. (3) According to the existing data, the number of genetic markers required for full-half siblings and half sibling identification could be obtained by curve fitting when the system effectiveness reached 0.95 or 0.99. CONCLUSIONS: When distinguishing half sibling from full sibling pairs or unrelated pairs, it is recommended to give preference to the LR method, and estimate the required number of markers according to the identification types and the population data, to ensure the identification effect.

RESUMO

The extensive use of organophosphorus insecticides poses a threat to the survival of non-target organisms. Ecotoxicological outcomes of embryonic exposure to insecticides are rarely evaluated in various oviparous species. In this study, soft-shelled turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis) eggs were incubated in moist substrate containing different levels (0, 2, 20 and 200 µg/kg) of chlorpyrifos to investigate its toxic effects on embryonic development and survival, and hatchling physiological performance. Chlorpyrifos exposure had no significant impacts on embryonic development rate and egg survival in P. sinensis. Similarly, embryonic chlorpyrifos exposure neither obviously affected the size and locomotor performance of hatchlings, nor changed the activities of superoxide dismutase and catalase, and content of malondialdehyde in their erythrocytes. Based on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis, minor metabolic perturbations related to amino acid, lipid and energy metabolism in hatchlings after embryonic chlorpyrifos exposure were revealed by hepatic metabolite profiling. Overall, our results suggested that embryonic exposure to environmentally relevant levels of chlorpyrifos had only a limited impact on physiological performances of hatchlings, although it would result in a potential risk of hepatotoxicity in P. sinensis.

RESUMO

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally. Early detection of lung cancer can lead to more effective treatment and improved survival. Circulatory abnormal cells (CACs) with specific chromosomal variation may be used to diagnose lung cancer and to differentiate benign from malignant nodules. The value of CAC in precancer diagnosis, however, remains controversial. In this study, a systematic review and meta-analysis are conducted to clarify the diagnostic value of CAC in early-stage lung cancer. A systematic literature search was conducted using the following medical topic title terms and text-free words: "circulating genetically abnormal cells", "CACs", "liquid biopsy", "early lung cancer", "non-small cell lung cancer", "diagnostic accuracy", "sensitivity" and "specificity" in Science Direct, CNKI and Wanfang databases, respectively. Sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio, and area under the curve were analyzed by STATA15.0 (MP) software. Deek funnel plots were used to assess potential publication bias. Heterogeneity was tested using the I2 statistic and the Cochrane Q test. 7 major studies were included in this meta-analysis, and a total of 53728 participants were analyzed. In the diagnosis of early lung cancer, CAC had pooled sensitivity, specificity, and receiver operating characteristics of 0.80 (95% CI: 0.73-0.86), 0.85 (95% CI: 0.69-0.94), and 0.87 (95% CI: 0.84-0.90). The combined positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio, diagnostic odds ratio, and diagnostic score were 23.36 (95% CI: 7.33-74.46), 5.42 (95% CI: 2.37-12.43), 0.23 (95% CI: 0.16-0.35) and 3.15 (95% CI: 1.99-4.31) respectively. Publication bias was not detected. The CAC is effective at detecting lung cancer in its early stages.
